If you are looking for personally meaningful, authentic, emotive, and timeless portraits, then you have found the right photographer.
What is your approach and style?
I use documentary and lifestyle approaches to capture moments and emotions as unobtrusively as possible. I seek beautiful light and embrace shadows to document and evoke emotion. I use natural light whenever possible. However, I do carry light modifiers and a flash to ensure I can achieve my vision for each photograph.
Where and when will our session take place?
We will work together to choose a setting (i.e., your home or an outdoor setting that holds special significance to you) and create a vision for the style of your shoot. I can certainly suggest locations that I love, but my goal is for you to have photographs that are unique, therefore, I do not routinely photograph my clients in the same settings. I do not want you to see your photographs on your neighbors’ walls!
The time of your session will depend on the location. Outdoor shoots are typically scheduled in the early morning or evenings when the sun is lower in the sky. The time will vary depending on the season. In-home shoots are scheduled depending on when we will have the best light in the rooms selected for the shoot.
What if my home is small, messy, dark, etc.?
It is impossible for me to fully evaluate the situation prior to being in your home at the time of the shoot, but we will only need a few windows and a small space to create magic. The area(s) we use for your session will depend on the unique vision we are looking to create together. We will discuss in-home locations during the pre-session consultation. Common areas for photos are living rooms, kitchens, the master bedroom, and children’s rooms/nurseries. I recommend selecting two or three rooms you usually spend a lot of time in and making sure there is nothing visible in those rooms that you would not like to see in your photographs. I live with three children and a dog…I am not judging the tidiness of your home. However, we will not be able to spend time clearing rooms on the day of your session.
What should I/we wear?
In addition to planning the location of your session, we will discuss wardrobe during the pre-session consultation. For lifestyle family sessions, we will discuss the personal style of your family and come up with a color scheme that will work well on camera. We will take comfort and location into consideration. For stylized sessions, the wardrobe may be more dramatic, depending on the concept for the session.
